Gallery Wall In Progress

Surrounding yourself with an environment that speaks to your personal style & your vibe can do wonders for your sense of well-being. I have always had a passion for interiors but never really knew how to bring my vision to life. To be honest, it is still kind of hard to create what you see in your head but with a little tweaking, adding different items, removing others, it is possible to get pretty close.

I’ve found that I can spend hours scrolling different interiors that really speak to me. I often Google “Parisian chic interiors” and then float off to a land of chevron (or herringbone – apparently there is adifference) hardwood floors, gold leaf intricate frames, and minimalistic artwork. Within the past year or so, I thought it might be fun to start creating a space in my house that really speaks to my personal style. Until recently my interiors have always had things that I like but nothing that really got me all that excited. Also, I have to admit it is not easy considering our humble abode is a little beach house with a limited amount of square footage to work with. Nonetheless, I got to it.

One of my first projects that I am working on currently is my gallery wall. Definitely a work in progress to say the least but it is a fun work in progress! I had my boyfriend paint my walls a nice white, and now of course I am dying for a dark navy blue for this wall but that’s another story.

I ordered these frames awhile back and had fun choosing images from some of my favorite fashion magazines to fill them in. This is my favorite part because you really get to add images to the wall that speak to you and that make you happy. I also have some vintage frames I picked up at the antique store and painted gold with this gold rub n’ buff I read about on another blog. I found the gold color that comes out to really be what I was looking for.

I am excited to add different pieces to my gallery wall, it doesn’t always have to be a photo. I actually have a faux cow skull that we painted white and gold that I want to add to the mix along with some other little mirrors and fun frames.

I hope to share more of my room with you as I continue adding things to it that make me smile. If you want to try your own gallery wall, check out some of the frames below along with some of my other favorite interior pieces.

Flirting with Winter

Somehow I feel like it is almost Summer and then I very quickly get reminded that nope, we are still in January. Granted I am in Southern California and am not dealing with Winter Storm Juno 2016 but you know, it was like in the 50's this morning and all.

Manic Monday

Just another...manic Monday? It certainly is over here - I have been making a concerted effort lately to be a bit more prepared for the mornings so when I wake up I don't feel like a mad woman flying out the door everyday. Well...let's just say, I got about 50% there. I woke up this morning with about 15 minutes to get ready...ha. And then I took about 20-30, hence making me later than I like to be, you know the drill. A work in progress is what I will call it.

Thursday's Things

I want to show you guys some of my favorite go-to pieces each week & I am going to start it off this week with one of my favorite druzy cuffs by Love Tatum & the watch I wear basically everyday by Larsson & Jennings

I am sure many of you have seen these watches on other bloggers via Instagram and it is one I have wanted for such a long time! I finally decided to go for it, because it is somewhat affordable for a watch. I honestly wear it almost every day and receive compliments all the time! It has a big face but is SIMPLE & not over cluttered with crystals or smaller dials on the background.

Also, this beautiful cuff is a black druzy cuff from my friend Tatum’s jewelry line, Love Tatum. I picked this one up at her last sample sale and find myself wearing it all the time. Her pieces are always well-made, timeless pieces that add a bit of pizazz to your outfit. One of my favorite ways to get dressed is to put on an all black outfit, good shoes, good bag, and then top it off with some awesome gold jewelry.

 Shop these pieces:

Gold Watch: Larsson & Jennings
Cuff: Love Tatum Jewelry (Shop similar items on her site!)

8 Vital Questions to Ask Yourself When Cleaning Out Your Closet

2016 is in full swing and that means many of us are starting to wane from our resolutions. One thing I really wanted to do this year (and many times before!) is to clean out my closet - Yikes. Even the thought of that gives me anxiety. I have a hard time letting go of things. I tend to have STRONG emotional connections to clothes, telling myself things such as "oh, I bought that the time we vacationed to here or there", or "Oh, my ex-boyfriends great Grandmother bought me that" etc., etc.

Throughout the year I  really do try to keep my closet in check and get rid of things that I am not wearing or that I don't plan to wear in the upcoming 6 months or so. However, I somehow always end up with a crowded overstuffed closet full of things that make me think "Maybe I'll wear that...someday", with someday being way far off in the future or never.

Now, don't get me wrong, it is great to keep items that you will really be able to use again someday. Take the sweater in the below photo for example. Many of you might remember this sweater from about 4 or 5 years ago from American Apparel. Well, I held onto it because I thought - it seems like it is good quality, makes a statement, classic, and I just really overall love it. I probably haven't worn it in about 3 years but I was able to make it new again by pairing it with more modern items from my closet.

Denim + Heels

Pairing a great pair of denim with some heels (or a great pair of heels with some denim) is a combo I could go for everyday. Although I appreciate the women who can wear the full skirts and dresses with their heels on the daily I just find it so hard to put that on some mornings. Most mornings I really just want to slip into some comfy denim and sneakers so the fact I am even getting into heels in the morning is a big step for me.

Faux Real

If you are following me on Instagram (@blameitonbarneys) chances are you may have already taken a peek at this look featuring two of my all time favorite vintage pieces; this amazing vintage jacket via my great Grandma or as well called her "gramsy" (which now I wonder how she wore this because she was seriously a tiny little thing), and my first vintage Chanel bag - you may have also seen this a time or two if you have been following me for awhile.

Gray Days

Case of the Mondays? We have been having exceptionally gray days here in what is usually sunny San Diego. However today, things are looking up- I see the sun peeking through the clouds as I am typing. I was somewhat mimicking the weather in this outfit, shades of gray & moody blacks to start off the week.

Vintage Suede Fringe

The hunt is the best part. Clothes, boys, food - that one is questionable depending on how hungry you are, but you know what I mean. I remember the day, driving around DTLA with my best friend. Hot as hell outside. Searching for this vintage shop we heard about probably via some blogger we were following at the time.

Case of the Mondays

Getting back into the swing of things after the holidays has been much more difficult than I had anticipated. Coming back home with a cold kind of slowed me down and now I am just trying to get everything organized again the way it was before we left.

Stepping Into a New Year

New year, new you? January 1st, 2016 - the beginning of a brand new year. A fresh start. A time to reinvent. For many of us this is true, and for others not so much.
