We’ve all seen it; the super stylish girl who looks effortlessly
pulled together wearing a monochrome color palette. And if you've tried it
yourself, you know it isn’t always as easy as it seems. Sometimes, when you have
the right wardrobe essentials to pull from or have a good idea of what
pieces work well together, it can be a fun and easy process. Other times, it seems easier to throw up your hands in frustration
and opt for your “uniform” or go-to outfit you know works. That can be great
and all but sometimes you want to challenge your personal style and try new
looks. Keep reading for some tips that can help you pull off that effortless monochromatic
look this fall.
Play with textures...
Spicing up a monochromatic look has never been easier when playing
around with different textures and materials. An all-black look might fall flat
if all of the items you put on are made of the same textile. Try pairing some OTK suede boots over black tights, a long sheer long button up blouse, a
leather jacket, and a chunky knit scarf. You easily just added textures galore. You have
suede, leather, knit, and a sheer flirty material all mixing together to create
depth and interest in your outfit. It also shows you know how to pair different
items together and by keeping them all the same color palette it keeps it
looking effortless & chic.
Different shades of the same color...
This can be fun if you are going for a color coordinated monochromatic
look. Think shades of gray, cream, or even red. This might take some more
thought but if you can pull it off you will be happy you did. For instance, one
of the hot colors this season is the hunter green. You might notice though that
sometimes it is a darker shade of the color, or a little more olive, etc. Try
pairing a dark almost burnt red skirt with a bright poppy colored sweater or
blouse. You are still keeping it in the monochromatic scheme but adding some
more interest to your outfit.
Layers...
Nothing spices up the monochromatic look like throwing on some layers. This idea really plays into playing with textures as you will want to layer different textures within the outfit. Try throwing on a chunky knit in a hunter green with that amazing hunter green topshop suede jacket.

Add accessories...
Try adding a bag in a different color than your outfit or accessorizing
with pops of gold or silver jewelry. By adding accessories that differ from the color palette of your clothing you are able to add fun elements that make your outfit more interesting & more true to your own personal style.

Lady in red, nice.. ;-) And fits the scooter. I'd ride the streets that way.. :-)
ReplyDeleteLOVE these tips! I've always been a fan of monochrome looks and head to toe color, but I feel like I can't get it just right or I feel super conspicuous, like I'm wearing a costume. Maybe i'll try an all black look and play with textures, like you mentioned! Hope you're having a good weekend!
